The Cyprus Branch of the Royal Commonwealth Society (RCS Cyprus), an affiliated entity of the University of Nicosia, launched a series of video podcasts titled ‘Meet the Royal Commonwealth Society (RCS) and the Commonwealth’, which aims to introduce the role, the mission and the main activities of the RCS Network to the wider public, while at the same time presenting the Commonwealth of Nations, a voluntary association of independent and equal sovereign states.

The podcast series has successfully launched the first seven episodes, moderated by RCS Director Marinos Papaioakeim, with prominent guests. Episode 7 was the culmination of the first part of this initiative, as it hosted Rt Hon Patricia Scotland QC, the 6th Commonwealth Secretary-General, who shared her views on the current challenges and opportunities of the Modern Commonwealth. Rt Hon Patricia Scotland is the second Secretary-General from the Caribbean and the first woman to hold the post. She underlined the significance of the Commonwealth in the modern era, stating that the Commonwealth is continuing to grow and develop with greater significance than ever before, now having 54 countries with a combined population of 2,4 billion people, representing all continents, and that foundation of the commonwealth family is based on strong shared values, equality, democracy, and freedom. She further stressed that Cyprus acted as the bridgehead into the Commonwealth for small states.
